Note-taking Strategy

My students are learning different Reading Apprenticeship strategies to help with comprehension and understanding of Informational Text.  This week I am focusing on note-taking using a method from RA.  Students focus on four different ideas that good readers think about while reading.  Eventually students will "talk to the text:" using these four ideas, but I have them begin on sticky notes so they can clearly see their thinking and become metacognitive readers.

Today we read "On Top of the World" and students picked out something that surprised them, a question they have, a connection, and something they would like to know more about from the text.  This article is a non-fiction article about Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay, the first to reach the top of Mt. Everest.  They did a great job for the first try with this strategy!!
